New All India Radio, old paintings

Here's a time-lapse super 8 movie of me painting a number of years ago. You can't beat the lo-fi look of super 8 film. The music is an All India Radio song from our new album due sometime in 2010. I don't paint much anymore - much too busy with music these days!

Destroy All Demos NOW

A few weeks ago a voice in my head told me to go through my box of crappy demo tapes and release them on an album. Stupidly I listened and I now present to you DESTROY ALL DEMOS, my ambient and electronic music doodles from the early 1980’s to the mid 1990’s (I'll save my indie rock demos for another day). Most of the tracks were recorded on cassette and reel to reel and mastered back onto cassette. So as you'd expect they are full of hiss, pops, dropouts and bad editing. But somehow, I like still them...yes they're bad, but good bad with lo-fi charm (so I've convinced myself) and many of them were the seeds for my later music projects.
Best of all, the album is FREE (I couldn't knowingly charge you for this stuff!). Click on the link below, then go to 'Download Album' and type in a zero amount (unless you're feeling generous), choose your preferred format and Bob's your uncle.

Here's one I prepared earlier

Now that I'm an unemployed bum, I'd like to think I can manage a blog cartoon a day, but I've already fallen behind. So here's one I prepared earlier. Like about 18 years earlier. It's a sketch for a possible painting of Craig McArthur who ran a studio called Whirled where my old band Pray TV recorded. It was supposed to help cover the bill. Not that I ever asked him if he wanted a painting instead of cash. In the end I never got around to it. Note the computer in front of the window in the top right corner (with the eye on the screen). Back in 1991, computers running software (Cubase in this case) were still pretty rare. That damn computer was Craig's new toy and it ruined some of the songs by replacing the real snare drum sound with a horrible 'thwacky' sample...for no reason other than it could. UGH. Glad we don't use computers anymore.....
